The production – which launches tomorrow night at 9pm – stars Sarah Lancashire, Joanna Vanderham and Emun Elliot and is set in 1870s northern England

Based on Emile Zola’s 1883 novel, The Ladies’ Paradise, it centres around John Moray, owner of Britain’s first department store and details the life and relationships of the employees who work there.

Darvill will appear as Bradley Burroughs – a barber whose shop Moray wants to buy to further the expansion of The Paradise.

But Burroughs’ ambition to become Moray’s partner quickly causes resentment throughout the store, putting the barber in grave danger.

Darvill is best known for his portrayal of Rory Williams in Doctor Who – a role he has played since 2010 alongside his on-screen wife, Karen Gillan (Amy Pond). The couple are due to leave the show in the fifth episode of the current series – The Angels Take Manhattan.
