Piers Morgan’s CNN chat show suffered a set-back on Wednesday night when one of the programme’s guests, Frasier star Kelsey Grammer, “ran out of the building” minutes before his scheduled appearance.
The former Britain’s Got Talent judge took to Twitter yesterday evening to voice his surprise, writing: “Kelsey Grammer was supposed to be on my show now but ran out of the building. Strange.”
Morgan, who claimed he had “had a very friendly chat” with Grammer backstage at the show, explained the situation in another tweet. He wrote: “So, Kelsey Grammer saw a photo of his ex wife Camille in the open to our show and legged it. Extraordinary. Never had this happen before.”
“I like Kelsey Grammer personally, but this was a shockingly unprofessional thing to do. I wasn’t even going to mention his ex-wife!”
Grammer and his former partner Camille divorced in February 2011 after 13 years of marriage and both individuals have since made public statements blaming each other for the breakdown of their relationship.
Discussing Wednesday night’s unexpected exit, Grammer’s spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter: “Piers needs to take responsibility for what he did to Kelsey. It’s called accountability.”
Grammer had been booked to appear on the show to plug the second series of the Starz TV series Boss, in which he plays the fearsome mayor of Chicago who has to overcome both political and personal challenges while also battling a terminal disease.
Later in the evening Morgan attempted to make light of Grammer’s abrupt departure with a wry dig at Simon Cowell.
“I suspect Kelsey was watching X Factor in the green room and suddenly felt nauseous,” he wrote.
