Westlife’s Nicky Byrne is the latest celebrity to be confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing 2012.
The 33-year old is the third person to be officially announced for this year’s BBC talent show. He joins Tracy Beaker star Dani Harmer and Daybreak showbiz editor Richard Arnold in the 2012 contest.
Byrne entered the public eye when Westlife were signed by Simon Cowell in 1998 under the management of X Factor judge Louis Walsh. In 14 years of activity the band sold more than 45 million records worldwide and scored a staggering 14 number one singles in the UK, including Flying Without Wings and Unbreakable. Westlife disbanded in 2012 after a farewell tour.
Further Strictly contestant announcements are expected in the next few days. The launch show will be broadcast on BBC1 on Saturday 15 September at 6:30pm.
Rumoured contestants for this year’s series include cricketer Michael Vaughan, presenter Fern Britton, Olympian Beth Tweddle and Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh.
