Tina Fey to voice character in The Simpsons

The 30 Rock star will join Benedict Cumberbatch and Zooey Deschanel as a guest star in the animated show's 24th season

Tina Fey, creator and star of 30 Rock, is following in the footsteps of celebrities such as Paul McCartney, Glenn Close and Tony Blair by voicing a character for The Simpsons.

She will make her first foray into the famous fictional town of Springfield as Ms Cantwell, a substitute teacher at Springfield Elementary. In the episode, titled Black-Eyed, Please, Fey’s character will take a disliking to teacher’s pet Lisa Simpson.

Benedict Cumberbatch, New Girl star Zooey Deschanel and teen pop sensation Justin Bieber are also reported to be appearing in the 24th season of The Simpsons.

Cumberbatch will voice both the British Prime Minister and a “snake-like character” in an episode called Love Is A Many-Splintered Thing and Zooey Deschanel will appear in the same episode as Bart’s girlfriend while Justin Bieber will play himself in an episode titled The Fabulous Faker Boy, according to TVLine.

The Simpsons will return to Fox on September 30 and will be shown on Sky1 in the UK at a later date.
