What would you do if you found a high-powered alien weapon lying in a smouldering crater in the middle of your battle-ravaged city? Ring the authorities and hand it in? Or pick up the blaster and embark on a crime spree…
If you plumped for the latter you’ll identify wholeheartedly with the protagonists of Marvel’s new short film Item 47, which takes place immediately after the climactic battle between the forces of good and evil at the end of Avengers Assemble.
The 12-minute mini-movie focuses on young couple Benny (Jesse Bradford) and Claire (Lizzy Caplan), who stumble upon an unrecovered gun belonging to the dastardly extraterrestrial Chitauri and decide to use the weapon in a spate of bank robberies.
In this newly-released clip of the film, Claire can be seen attempting to convince Benny of the righteousness of their plan:
Naturally, two of Earth’s valiant S.H.I.E.L.D agents (Titus Welliver and Maximiliano Hernandez) aren’t best pleased with this pair of hoodlums running amok with a piece of out of his world hardware and make sure that it’s only a matter of time before they pay for their crimes.
Item 47 is the longest of Marvel’s One Shot short films to date and looks likely to act as something of a bridge between Avengers Assemble and next year’s Iron Man 3.
As in the case of previous shorts The Consultant and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer, both of which focused on S.H.I.E.L.D agent Phil Coulson and appeared on the Thor and Captain America home releases respectively, Item 47 will be bundled with the Avengers Assemble blu-ray when it’s released in the UK on Monday 17 September.
