We’re through the looking glass here, people – quite literally. Doctor Who star Karen Gillan – who leaves her role as Amy Pond early into series seven later this year – is going from British teatime TV to US horror cinema, as the lead in a film about a haunted mirror.
Oculus begins a decade after a horrific incident has left Kaylie (Gillan) and her brother orphaned. Convicted of the murders, Kaylie’s sibling has undergone rehabilitation and is ready to move on with his life – but his sister has other ideas, reports Deadline Hollywood.
Kaylie (the one who didn’t get taken away for psychiatric analysis, remember) is convinced that an antique mirror is responsible for her parents’ deaths, and sets out to prove just that.
Filming is due to begin on the project in Alabama this autumn.
Gillan is also currently attached to another film, Scottish indie romantic comedy, Not Another Happy Ending, alongside Downton Abbey star Jessica Brown Findlay, Sophie Wu and Gary Lewis.
