No reunion for Kylie and Jason as Hit Factory concert is cancelled

Steps, Rick Astley and Dead or Alive were also due to celebrate 25 years of the PWL record label in Hyde Park tomorrow

For those die-hard Neighbours fans desperate to see Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan’s much-hyped reunion this Wednesday, you’re going to have to wait a little longer…

The pair were due to perform together for the first time in more than 20 years at Pete Waterman’s PWL Hit Factory Live concert, but the festival has been cancelled after the Hyde Park venue was deemed unsafe following severe weather at the weekend.

Since the Friday-Sunday Wireless festival, the site has had less than 48 hours to recover from the unprecedented downpours. Live Nation COO John Probyn said, “we put in place a massive plan to prepare the site for tomorrow. Eight thousand cubic metres of wood chip is currently put in place. Despite best efforts, time has beaten us.”

Steps, Kylie, Jason, Dead or Alive, Rick Astley, 2 Unlimited and Sinitta were all due to perform at the concert to celebrate 25 years of the PWL record label.

Yesterday afternoon Kylie tweeted a picture of rehearsals with her former Neighbours co-star. She had previously announced that she would be singing her iconic 1988 duet with Donovan, Especially for You.

“I don’t think we’ll even need to sing it,” she told Glamour magazine. “I’m sure the audience all went through the Neighbours wedding. It’s going to bring the house down! Even though it’s outdoors.”

Sadly, fans of the pair will have to wait that little bit longer to see them reunited on stage. In the meantime, here’s a reminder of that cheese-tastic 80s pop anthem for your viewing pleasure…
