The Ladykillers – 2:55pm, Film4

A gang of ruthless thugs plan a daring robbery but are stymied by their eccentric old landlady (the fabulous Katie Johnson). Also starring Alec Guinness, Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom, this is classic Ealing black comedy at its very best.

Clueless – 7:00pm, Film4

The premise – a loose adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma transported to Beverley Hills – utterly undersells this rom-com classic starring Alicia Silverstone as 16-year-old Cher Horowitz who’s devoted to bolstering the love-lives of her high-school girlfriends.

The Boys Are Back – 8:00pm, BBC2

Clive Owen puts in a subtle performance in this drama about Joe Warr, a British sports writer living in Australia who, following the tragic death of his wife, adopts a “just say yes” approach to raising their young son Artie.

3:10 to Yuma – 10:00pm, Channel 5

Russell Crowe and Christian Bale star in this re-make of the 1957 classic western. When dangerous outlaw Ben Wade is arrested, struggling rancher Dan Evans volunteers to escort the convict to the local station where he’ll catch the 3:10 train to jail in Yuma.

Lucky Number Slevin – 10:50pm, Channel 4

Black comedy thriller with a stellar cast of Josh Hartnett, Bruce Willis and Lucy Liu, about smart-talking Slevin Kelevra who becomes a victim of mistaken identity and is dragged into a war between two rival gang leaders (Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley).

The Age of Innocence – 11:30pm, Sky Movies Drama & Romance

Martin Scorcese’s adaptation of Edith Wharton’s novel The Age of Innocence, about young lawyer Newland Archer whose engagement to pretty May Welland is disrupted by the arrival of glamorous Countess Ellen Olenska to their 19th century upper-class New York set. Starring Daniel Day Lewis, Winona Ryder and Michelle Pfeiffer.
