Vernon Kay going for Gold on new ITV1 sports talent show

Let’s Get Gold pits British sports teams against one another as celebrity pundits give their verdicts

All Star Family Fortunes host Vernon Kay is to present a new ITV1 show in which sports teams from around Britain demonstrate their prowess in an attempt to land a £100,000 cash prize.

Let’s Get Gold will feature a panel of two sports personalities and two celebrities who will judge teams on their technique, skill and athleticism, creativity, style, and flair as they perform a range of “breath-taking” activities.

The competition is open to amateur and professional teams, with fifteen set to take part in the three-part show – screened across consecutive nights – as they aim to turn their particular sports into spectacular and entertaining routines.

Kay and the show’s producers are hoping the series will benefit from increasing interest in the London Olympics.

“With the Olympics just around the corner and sport fever hitting the UK, this show provides the stage for local sporting teams to show off their skills and sporting prowess in breath-taking performances,” said Kay.

“This is a really exciting commission for Thames,” said the production company’s head of entertainment, Suzy Lamb. “In this Olympic year, Let’s Get Gold captures the nation’s mood perfectly, celebrating the UK’s biggest and brightest sporting talents.”

ITV’s controller of entertainment, John Kaye Cooper, added: “Let’s Get Gold will give Britain’s sports teams the chance to show off their skill and creativity as the country gears up for a great summer”.
