Timid bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss‘s discovery of an ancient mask transforms him into a superhero with unbridled self-confidence and irresistible charm in this zany, comic-book comedy providing a stage for Jim Carrey’s formidable talent.

Run Fatboy Run – 9:00pm, Film4

Former Friends star David Schwimmer steps behind the camera to direct this light-hearted comedy starring ‘fatboy’ Simon Pegg, trying to win back the heart of old flame Thandie Newton by squeezing into thigh-skimming shorts and signing up for a marathon.

Four Weddings and a Funeral – 10:00pm, Channel 5

Richard Curtis’s charming British comedy about a group of 30-somethings forever attending weddings perfects its balance of laughs and poignancy, featuring outstanding performances from Simon Callow and Kristin Scott Thomas alongside overnight sensation Hugh Grant. 

American Pie 2 – 11.15pm, ITV2

The full ensemble jump back on board for another dose of bawdy humour as the students celebrate the end of their first year at college with a beach house gathering fuelled by beer, parties and awkward sexual encounters.

Tsotsi – 12:10am, BBC2


An Oscar-winner for best foreign language film starring Presley Chweneyagae as Tsotsi, a violent and apathetic South African mired in crime whose accidental discovery and care of a baby adds a humanizing touch to a seemingly cold-blooded criminal.
