Snow Patrol, Stereophonics, Duran Duran and Paolo Nutini were today confirmed as headliners for the BT London Live Opening Ceremony Celebration Concert.
The open-air event, which will take place on 27 July in Hyde Park, coincides with the much-hyped London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, directed by Slumdog Millionaire’s Danny Boyle, and will offer thousands of ticket holders the chance to enjoy live acts representing all four corners of the UK.
Multi-million album selling Snow Patrol, Brit Award-winning Stereophonics, pop superstars Duran Duran and singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini will time their performances around live coverage on giant screens of the Ceremony itself, direct from the Olympic Park.
“Performing to so many people on the most exciting day in sport for Great Britain will be one of the highlights of the last decade for us,” said Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon.
“Living in London and everything, with all the excitement, it’s certainly an honour to be part of it. I think it will be very special,” added Jonny Quinn of Snow Patrol.
Tickets for the BT London Live concert will go on sale to the general public on Friday 4 May at 9am, priced at £60 plus booking fee, from www.btlondonlive.com. BT customers get exclusive access to tickets from 9am on Thursday 3 May.
BT London Live – a partnership between the Mayor of London, the Royal Parks and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets – will offer opportunities for the public to catch free live sporting action from the London 2012 Olympic Games on iconic screens based in Hyde Park, Victoria Park and Trafalgar Square.
As well as enormous state-of-the-art screens, each location will provide entertainment for viewers of all ages, including live music, outdoor arts and performances, as well as the chance to try out different sports.
