The Voice beats Sherlock to become BBC iPlayer’s most requested programme

New figures reveal Saturday's edition of the talent show was viewed 764,000 times in a single day, a new record

The first of The Voice UK’s Battle Rounds has emerged as the most requested programme ever in a day on BBC iPlayer, having been viewed an astonishing 764,000 times in one 24 hour period.

The talent show smashed the previous record set by the Sherlock episode A Scandal in Belgravia, which was requested 623,000 times on January 2 2012.

While television ratings for the Saturday 21 April edition of the programme were down by 800,000 viewers compared to the previous week, the BBC’s latest figures suggest that the show is proving to be a big online hit with viewers.

However, The Voice’s 9.9m TV viewers on Saturday did manage to beat its ITV rival Britain’s Got Talent in the ratings, with the latter show attracting 9.3m viewers excluding those watching on ITV1 +1, who took its total average to 9.7m.
