Madonna: I’ve never watched a TV talent show

The Material Girl reveals her disdain for X Factor-style TV competitions

Despite having repeatedly been linked with TV talent shows over the years, pop superstar Madonna has revealed that she’s never actually seen one.

Speaking to Dan Wootton on ITV’s breakfast show, Daybreak, the Material Girl said: “I’ve never actually seen any of those shows – I don’t watch television. And the contests, well, everybody’s a bit contest obsessed.”

Asked whether she would ever consider being a judge on an X Factor-style show, Madonna replied: “I don’t actually like the idea of being a judge. It’s so subjective – like what’s good and what isn’t. I don’t know, I think perhaps we’re too obsessed with it.”

The singer, whose new album MDNA debuted at number one in the UK album charts when it was released in March, also claimed never to have heard of One Direction, the boy band who were formed on The X Factor in 2010.

“That’s a pop group, right? Sorry. I haven’t seen them yet, no, sorry. Slap my hand,” she said.
