Second series for New Girl Zooey Deschanel and fourth term for Glee

US network Fox has renewed the twentysomething sitcom, along with the high school musical comedy

Zooey Deschanel’s quirky sitcom New Girl will return for a second season, US network Fox has announced.

The series – currently on hiatus from its UK run on Channel 4 – sees Deschanel’s character Jess sharing a flat with three twentysomething men, following a break-up. It garnered positive reviews and was the most-watched autumn debut for a Fox-scripted show for over a decade.

Meanwhile, high school musical comedy Glee has been renewed for a fourth term, the tried and tested formula of pop covers and sassy humour continuing to convince bosses despite falling ratings.

Fox President Kevin Reilly said: “Over the past season, New Girl has become the hottest new appointment series for young adults[…] and Glee has continued its success as a genre-defying, global cultural phenomenon.

“[The two series] add a fresh and distinctive flavour to our Tuesday nights, and I’m really happy to bring them back to our air next season.”
