Doctor Who: Farscape star Ben Browder cast in western episode

Filming is currently taking place in Spain on one of Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill's final outings

There’s a treat in store for sci-fi aficionados, with Farscape and Stargate SG-1 actor Ben Browder confirmed as the latest guest star for Doctor Who series seven.

Browder played astronaut John Crichton in cult Australian/American sci-fi collaboration Farscape, and starred as Cameron Mitchell for two seasons of SG-1.

He will appear in a western-themed episode of Doctor Who penned by Being Human creator Toby Whithouse and currently filming in Spain, according to Doctor Who Magazine.

Whithouse revealed previously that the episode would be one of the last to feature the Doctor’s companions, Amy Pond and Rory Williams – aka Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill – who are known to be leaving at some point during the new seventh series.

Whithouse has said the episode is slated third in the run, which could indicate an early departure for the pair. However, Steven Moffat is known to be writing Amy and Rory’s final episode, so it’s possible the instalment currently being filmed is part of their farewell story arc.

As reported yesterday, Upstairs Downstairs actor Adrian Scarborough will also feature in Whithouse’s story, as a character named Kahler-Jex. Meanwhile, Dominic Kemp will play Kahler-Mas, with Rob Cavezos starring as Walter.
