The Avengers gets new UK title and first official poster

Artwork reveals that the Marvel superhero film will be called Avengers Assemble in Britain

The first official poster for The Avengers has been released and features more superheroes than you can shake a brightly-coloured cape at.

Based on the popular comic book series, which was first published in 1963, the upcoming film will bring some of the biggest names in the Marvel universe together on the big screen.

Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson will both reprise their roles from the Iron Man films, Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor and Chris Evans will appear as Captain America.

In addition, Samuel L Jackson has a role in The Avengers as Nick Fury, a character he has played in a number of Marvel films.

The new poster also reveals that the film will be known as Avengers Assemble in the UK, a title change which some sources claim has been made to avoid confusion with the popular 1960s TV series The Avengers.

Directed by Buffy creator Joss Whedon, The Avengers/Avengers Assemble will hit UK cinemas on Friday 27 April.
