David Morrissey joins the cast of The Walking Dead

The acclaimed actor will play antagonist The Governor in the hit zombie drama

Actor David Morrissey has been cast as The Governor in the third season of the post-apocalyptic zombie horror The Walking Dead.

In the original comic book written by Robert Kirkman, The Governor is portrayed as a primary antagonist for former sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes (played in the TV drama by Andrew Lincoln) and his group of survivors.

Liverpool-born Morrissey, 47, is best known for his role in the acclaimed political thriller State of Play and for playing Gordon Brown in The Deal. Last year he starred as Robert Carne in BBC1’s dramatisation of Winifred Holtby’s South Riding.

The Walking Dead, which was recently renewed for a third series of 16 episodes, goes back into production this Spring.
