3… albums released by indie band Belle and Sebastian before they won the best newcomers award in 1999. A cynic might argue that’s an indication of just how mainstream an event the Brits is…

4… the most times anyone has been the main host of the event. It was Chris Evans, consecutively in 1995 and 1996 and then again, ten years later, in 2005 and 2006

13… categories. The number has fluctuated over the years but the 2012 awards feature British male and female solo artist categories, British breakthrough act, group, single, album and producer, international male and female solo artist, international group and breakthrough act, as well as the critics choice award and the outstanding contribution to music award – this year presented to Blur

17… awards, the greatest number won by a single artist, Robbie Williams – 12 as a solo performer and five with Take That (pictured)

32… Brit Awards ceremonies. From the first in 1977 (the Beatles won best album for Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Cliff Richard was named best male solo artist) and then, following a five-year break, every year since 1982 until the present day

46… chart places jumped by Adele following her emotional me-and-my-piano performance of Someone like You at last year’s awards. The singer received a standing ovation and subsequently saw the single go straight to number one

60… chefs required to cook this year’s awards dinner – and 550 waiting staff to serve it. Want some more Brits catering numbers? Of course you do. To prepare the meals, they’ll be using 100kg of tomatoes, 120 litres of fresh lime juice, 130kg of diced lamb shoulder, 150kg of butter, 220kg of red cabbage, 1,200 lamb best ends, 3,000 eggs, 5,200 pieces of crostini and 7,800 chocolate truffles. Sadly, no information at this stage as to just how much alcohol they’ll be getting through at the notoriously boozy party…

300… complaints about Russell Brand. After the comedian hosted the show in 2007, ITV received hundreds of complaints relating to his controversial jokes about Robbie Williams entering rehab, the Queen’s “naughty bits” and a “friendly fire” incident that killed a British soldier in Iraq. 1,000… members of the Brits Voting Academy – the people who decide the winners each year. They include music journalists, student press, major and independent record companies, retailers, concert promoters and music TV/radio producers and presenters. Just under a quarter of the academy’s membership is drawn from the recording industry and around 12 per cent from major record companies
