Alicia Keys and Houston’s cousin, Dionne Warwick, are also scheduled to sing, with Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Elton John among the music stars invited to attend.

Meanwhile, actor Kevin Costner – who starred alongside Houston in hit 1992 movie The Bodyguard – will lead tributes at the service.

Houston’s publicist also confirmed that an invitation has been sent to Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown, despite earlier reports that family members had warned him to stay away.

Gospel singer and pastor Marvin Winans, who married Houston and Brown in 1992, will give the eulogy while the late singer’s mentor Clive Davis will also address mourners.

Houston, 48, died on Saturday in her suite at the Beverly Hilton, shortly before she was due to perform at Davis’s pre-Grammys party in the hotel.

Yesterday it was announced that coverage of the funeral will be streamed live online. Police will be closing the streets around the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, where the service takes place and have urged members of the public to stay away.
