Smallville may have ended its ten-year run on US television in 2011, but DC Comics has announced that it is bringing back this version of the Man of Steel for an 11th season – in digital format.
The first issue of Smallville Season 11, penned by a former writer on the TV series, Brian Q Miller, will be released digitally on 13 April and issued in print a month later on 16 May.
New digital chapters will be released every week with the story picking up from the last scene of the Smallville finale on TV where – spoilers ahead for those who haven’t seen it – Clark Kent (Tom Welling) soared above the Earth.
In a statement, Miller said: “Six months after Clark Kent donned the cape and took to the skies to save Earth from Apokolips…enter Season 11! New allies abound! New enemies afoot! And old friends return where they’re least expected!”
This isn’t the first time that the world of comics has continued the story of successful TV dramas. Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon spawned seasons eight and nine of his story for Dark Horse Comics after the show finished its run on the small screen.
