Russell Crowe in the running for RoboCop reboot

Rumour has it that the Australian actor is being lined up as the future of law enforcement....

Russell Crowe is “in the mix” to star in the remake of 80s sci-fi classic RoboCop, according to Variety reporter Jeff Sneider.

Asked about Crowe’s upcoming projects, the Hollywood insider claimed on Twitter: “Russell Crowe, MIGHT star in Aronofsky’s NOAH… but do you know what else he MIGHT star in? Three words: Ro. Bo. Cop.”

Was he joking? “NO,” replied Sneider, IN CAPITALS. “He’s in the mix, but [Noah and RoboCop] shoot at the same time, so who knows?”

Director José Padilha is currently helming the reboot of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 original, about a mortally wounded police officer who becomes the future of law enforcement after he is encased in a prototype robotic suit.

It seems likely that if Crowe is to be involved it will be in the central role of Officer Alex Murphy/RoboCop, first played by Peter Weller.
