Dermot O’Leary will host the star-studded event at London’s O2 Arena on 25 January – although he could be joining the queue to receive an award himself, as he’s up against regular winners Ant and Dec, as well as Keith Lemon and Michael McIntyre, in the entertainment presenter category.

Not surprisingly, the hugely popular Downton Abbey now has enough clout to take on perennial big hitter Doctor Who, Merlin and last year’s winner, Waterloo Road, for most popular drama.

No sign of any Downton stars in the male and female drama performance category, though, where Doctor Who’s Matt Smith and Karen Gillan compete against Torchwood’s John Barrowman and Eve Myles, despite disappointing reviews for the Who spin-off itself last year.

The Only Way Is Essex beat Big Fat Gypsy Weddings to the YouTube Audience Award at the 2011 Baftas and both appear here, TOWIE in the reality line-up and BFGW in the factual group. Meanwhile, Dynamo: Magician Impossible squares up to Harry Hill’s TV Burp, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Take Me Out in the entertainment category.

As for the regulars, EastEnders has triumphed ten times to Coronation Street’s six, so it remains to be seen if the Street can improve on its score against the Square this year.
