Elizabeth Tayor memorabilia continues to sell for staggering sums of money, with a painting of the late actress by Andy Warhol fetching $662,500 (£428,000) at auction.
The painting was sold as part of Christie’s sale of Taylor’s haute couture, which took place in New York on Wednesday and saw one of her wedding dresses sell for $62,000 (£40,000).
The portrait was the culmination of a series of paintings of the actress by Warhol in the early 1960s, with this one, dubbed the Silver Liz, representing Taylor at her most iconic.
Sales of the remainder of Taylor’s art, clothing and memorabilia will be held throughout the week, with a concurrent online-only sale of certain items running until Saturday.
An auction of Taylor’s jewellery collection broke records on Tuesday when it sold for a total of $116m (£74m).
