After an X Factor final that failed to set the world on fire, Little Mix’s dreams of bagging the Christmas number one spot face a new threat as online retailer Amazon.co.uk has revealed that the Military Wives and Gareth Malone’s Wherever You Are is its most pre-ordered music item ever.
“Pre-orders for the single have been so strong they have outstripped those achieved by Take That’s 2010 album, Progress, almost three times over,” said Amazon UK’s music manager, Roger Greensmith.
“This is a tremendous achievement when you consider that Take That’s album marked Robbie’s return and was one of the most highly anticipated music releases ever. With a week of pre-orders still to go, this puts the Military Wives choir in a great position to be Christmas number one.”
The song, which is being released off the back of Malone’s recent TV series, The Choir: Military Wives, was recently lauded by campaigner Jon Morter, who said the single “will sell really well”, but Amazon’s revelation suggests that sales for the single are set to outstrip all expectations.
Wherever You Are will be released on Sunday 18 December, when the track will appear online as an MP3 download, before materialising in shops as a CD single on 19 December.
