Boltonian funnyman Peter Kay has been announced as the host of this year’s Royal Variety Performance.
The comic will act as master of ceremonies at the gala show, which is due to take place at the Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays on 5 December.
It will be his second time hosting the event, having previously overseen proceedings in 2009, when the Royal Variety Performance was held in Blackpool.
Other acts set to appear at this year’s bash include a brace of musicians, including Pixie Lott, Cee Lo Green, Nicole Scherzinger, Tony Bennett and Barry Manilow; comedians Jason Manford, Tim Minchin and Greg Davies; Britain’s Got Talent winner Jai McDowall; and US magicians Penn & Teller.
This diverse group of performers will be strutting their stuff in front of the Princess Royal, though not the Queen or the Prince of Wales, neither of whom will attend this year’s event.
Ticket sales from the event will raise money for the Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund, whose spokeswoman said: “The greatest artistes in entertainment have always featured on the Royal Variety Performance and this year is no exception as the biggest acts in the world unite for one night only.
“There is something for everyone – a true Royal Variety Performance.”
The show will be broadcast on ITV at an unconfirmed date after the show.
