Already a veteran of Corrie and EastEnders, Jill Halfpenny will add another big-name credit to her CV with a new role in African-based drama Wild at Heart’s next series.
ITV has announced that she will play Ed Lynch’s (Robert Bathurst) estranged wife Fiona, whose lost and lonely presence will shed light on Ed’s sour demeanour when it’s revealed that she left him for a younger man.
Fiona’s arrival is set to shake up the character dynamics at Leopard’s Den and inject some new energy into the Wild at Heart characters’ lives, as she’s said to be both quick-witted and an incorrigible flirt.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of Wild at Heart in Africa. Fiona Lynch is certainly a fun and feisty character and will no doubt cause quite a few headaches for Ed and Danny. I can’t wait!” said Halfpenny.
Wild at Heart debuted on ITV in 2006 to immediate acclaim and remains one of the broadcaster’s top dramas, regularly pulling in audiences of at least seven million viewers.
The show’s seventh series is due to air on ITV in 2012.
