Both footballer Robbie Savage and astrology entertainer Russell Grant were hurt on Strictly Come Dancing over the weekend, with Grant close to being unable to appear on Saturday night.
“On Saturday after the tango dress rehearsal, my knee gave way completely,” says Grant. “When rushed into physio I was told I might not be able to dance on the live show. But thanks to Nicky, our fab phiz, she strapped it up with an ice pack on the inside – so I literally did the tango dancing on ice!”
There was no mention of the incident on the show and Grant says he hadn’t intended to talk about it now, but news of him having an MRI scan leaked out. “I don’t want any sympathy votes as your unconditional love and support is all I ever need,” he said. “I make this promise to all of you who have given me so much support and loyalty, I am not giving up.”
He also addressed the issue of whether an astrologer should have predicted problems: “I have said on many occasions that my challenging astrological map told me my health would be an issue and advised against me doing the show. But how could I refuse?”
While we saw no sign of any problem with Russell Grant, the injury that Robbie Savage sustained could not have been more public: dancing the jive with Ola on the live show, he ended with a slide across the dancefloor and right into the camera.
“Misjudged the slide a little bit,” he said on his @RobbieSavage8 Twitter account. “Too much speed, nose is a bit of a mess, we move on to the paso doble.”
He did add, though: “Twenty years as a footballer, one broken leg, one broken neck, seven knee operations, three hernias. As a dancer, five weeks, a broken nose.”
