The Only Way Is Dalston – is east London getting the Essex treatment?

The word on the street is that Shoreditch hipsters are next on the structured reality list

Rumours are circulating that yet another show in the vein of The Only Way Is Essex and Made in Chelsea is heading our way.

The story currently causing a stir on Twitter stems from an article on the Vice website, which claims to have got its hands on an MTV casting call for a reality show about the east London hipster scene, which centres around Dalston and Shoreditch.

According to the memo quoted by Vice, the show will be about “young creative people living, working and hanging out in East London, fulfilling their creative dreams” and aims to bring together “a group of diversely talented individuals to create a collective and a brand – ultimately a factory of creativity to harness talent.”

So Barley, so good. But there’s more. The supposed call-out also claims the series will “celebrate youth culture through self-expression” and “subvert people’s expectations of the scene”, while “the eventual winner will be supported by MTV and their skills and visions will be shown to the world.”

It’s even claimed that casting has already taken place, with eager young musicians, artists, media types and layabouts congregating at hip Hackney Road watering hole (and, of course, installation space) Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes.

If it’s not true it should be. And if it is true, surely it should be called not The Only Way Is Dalston, but Shoreditch Shore… contacted MTV for comment but has yet to receive a reply.
