Rough Cuts: Russian media magnate Alexander Lebedev in TV punch-up

Independent and Evening Standard owner "neutralises" opponent on NTV

So there’s poor old Rough Cuts trying to have a well-deserved day off when the bloke that owns the Independent and Evening Standard goes and whacks someone on film.

It seems words aren’t always enough for this Russian billionaire…

During a debate on the financial crisis, Mr Lebedev took exception to something his fellow guest, former property developer Sergei Polonsky, had to say.  When Polonsky exclaimed he wanted to “stick one in the mouth” of Lebedev, the newspaper magnate displayed a little of his old KGB training on NTV.  And as you can see in the video below, he was obviously well trained.

Lebedev was reported to have said after the show, “In a critical situation, there is no choice. I see no reason to be hit with the first shot. I neutralised him.”

I wonder if Paxman will be inviting him onto Newsnight any time soon?
