Roger Allam joins the cast of Endeavour

Olivier Award winner signs on for role in Morse prequel

Acclaimed actor Roger Allam is joining the cast of ITV’s upcoming Inspector Morse prequel, Endeavour, to play the detective’s partner, Inspector Fred Thursday.

Allam, a two-time Olivier Award winner, is best known for his theatre work but has made numerous appearances on radio and TV, perhaps most recognisably as slimy shadow minister Peter Mannion in the BBC political comedy The Thick of It.

The new two-hour film, set in Oxford in 1965, will see a young Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans) sidelined and discredited while working on a murder investigation led by DI Fred Thursday, before fighting back against adversity and beginning his search for truth.

Endeavour will mark the 25th anniversary of the first episode of Inspector Morse, which was broadcast in 1987, and will be filmed on location in Oxford.
