Campus canned by Channel 4 after one series

University-based comedy cancelled due to poor viewing figures

Quirky Channel 4 comedy Campus will not be returning for a second term after recording disappointing viewing figures, averaging just 600,000 per episode.

The series, penned by Green Wing writer Victoria Pile, followed the staff of the fictional Kirke University, and featured Pile’s trademark quick-fire dialogue and surreal flourishes.

Andy Nyman’s performance as monstrous university vice-chancellor Jonty de Wolfe stood out among an entertaining ensemble cast that nevertheless managed to garner only a small cult following.

“We’re proud to have championed Campus for those fans who watched [and] adored it,” said Channel 4, via its Twitter account. “But there simply weren’t enough to justify a second series.”

Campus was aired in six hour-long episodes at 10pm on Tuesday nights in April.
