Popular presenter Monty Don is to return to BBC2’s Gardeners’ World nearly three years after a stroke meant he stepped down from the show.
“Returning to Gardeners’ World is a fantastic opportunity,” he said. “I’ve really missed the programme so I can’t wait to get stuck in and get my hands dirty again.”
His departure in 2008 forced a revamp of the series, which is now to be largely reversed. Alongside Monty Don the show will also bring back former presenter Rachel De Thame and see the departure of Toby Buckland and Alys Fowler.
Buckland announced his departure through his Twitter account @TobyBuckland, saying: “It was such an honour to present Gardeners’ World and I’m sad to be leaving. Wish Monty and the team the best of luck.”
Similarly, departing presenter Fowler said on her @AlysFowler account: “And there I was thinking that this week would be OK.” In response to a fan’s question about how she felt, Fowler replied: “*takes deep breath* it will be OK.”
