With the seemingly endless hacks and leaks, Game of Thrones are inescapable. Now Winter has even come to NASCAR.
[Spoilers for Logan Lucky]
Director Steven Soderbergh's car-crime-caper doesn't have the slick suits of his previous smash hit, Ocean's 11, but it does feature Adam Driver, Channing Tatum and Daniel Craig sporting an electric blonde hairstyle. And it seems they're all fans of George R.R. Martin, whose novels form a crucial point in the plot.
As reported by Vulture, at one point the gang need to keep some prison guards occupied with impossible demands. Their fiendish scheme?
They request a copy of The Winds of Winter from the library.
For those who don't get the joke, it's not that George R.R. Martin's books are banned from prison libraries. (Although that is true in some places.) It's that no-one can read The Winds of Winter, the penultimate book in the series, because Martin hasn't finished it yet. Despite saying he would, soon, over and over again.
As the criminals note, the TV series has now long since passed the book's storyline, but George won't be rushed.
It's a small joke, but it made us smile. Plus, much awaited, impossible to find manuscripts might be the only thing connecting Game of Thrones, Logan Lucky and The Devil Wears Prada.
