Blake Edwards's successful TV series of the early 1960s, Peter Gunn, comes to the big screen with Craig Stevens reprising his role as the private investigator. The story involves Mafia treachery, offshore bordellos and exploding yachts, with Stevens waltzing through it with a girl on each arm. At times Edwards creates a lovely pastiche of 1940s Hollywood but for the most part this is a slick package that Edwards may have designed in the hope that it might rival his Pink Panther franchise. Mr Exorcist, William Peter Blatty, had a hand in the screenplay.
