Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

In an unconvincing thriller, Shawnee Smith (from the Saw franchise) plays a newlywed who goes undercover to prove her husband is innocent of embezzlement and murder. The trouble is, the woman's do-it-yourself detective work isn't very interesting, as she takes an entry-level admin job and then quickly cosies up to the company's villainous CEO (Michael Woods). This bland and predictable narrative is matched by Smith's underwhelming performance, leaving it to the score to manufacture the film's occasional air of unease. A straight-talking bail bondswoman (Jane Sowerby) provides much-needed energy, not to mention the tricks of the trade to facilitate Smith's snooping, but even her extensive professional resourcefulness is rendered ludicrous by the overly convenient and tension-free finale.
