Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

This pleasingly gritty blue collar drama is held together by a powerful performance from screen veteran Karl Malden, best known for his starring role opposite Michael Douglas in the 1970s TV series The Streets of San Francisco. In a neat twist on a familiar story, he plays a stubborn, proud construction worker who doesn't want his rebellious son Lenny Von Dohlen to join him on the scaffolding. There are believable performances from the largely unknown supporting cast and John E Gray's direction is admirably low-key.
