The Mafia and the movie business collided to glorious effect in Get Shorty, and this intriguing, if flawed, crime drama covers much the same ground. Timothy Hutton is the cynical journalist who has made his name exposing Mafia activities. To help out his shady chum Joe Pantoliano, he travels to Hollywood to convert his columns into a gangster movie. However, when he falls for troubled stripper Michelle Burke, he is faced with an awkward moral dilemma. It's a much more cerebral affair than Shorty, and at times it's a little too intense for its own good. However, the fabulous cast - there are cameos from Richard Dreyfuss, Chazz Palminteri, Tony Goldwyn, Cybill Shepherd and Jimmy Smits - ensures it is always watchable.
