Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

The writer of The Usual Suspects and one of its stars joined forces as two of the executive producers on this TV movie, only to prove that lightning rarely strikes twice. Despite the efforts of writer Christopher McQuarrie and star Kevin Pollak, there's plenty of action but little substance to this tale of a master criminal whose determination to go straight could cost him his life. Pollak contributes a typically pugnacious performance and there's committed support from Felicity Huffman as a bent cop, but Chris Sarandon's mobster and Josh Charles's hotshot district attorney are too thinly drawn to hold our attention. Oh for a Keyzer Soze.
