Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Shelley Winters is the quintessential Ma Barker in cult director Roger Corman's psychological gangster movie about her infamous bank-robbing brood who terrorised the Depression-hit Midwest in the 1930s. A satisfyingly sleazy salute to Middle American family values - the family that slays together, stays together - Corman's supposedly true crime saga is a riotous stew of sentimental blood-bonding and perverse bloody violence. In one of his earliest appearances, Robert De Niro is electrifying as the drug-addicted son.
