Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Grease director Randal Kleiser targets the female pre-teen market with this inane wish-fulfilment fantasy. A slight and predictable vehicle for She's the Man star Amanda Bynes, it follows the comic deception that unfolds when smitten teen Jenny ends up shipwrecked with her rock idol, Jason Masters (Chris Carmack). But after discovering they're actually only a short distance away from their holiday resort, Jenny decides to keep quiet, hoping the singer will fall for her if they're left alone together. The clichés come thick and fast, with no stone left unturned in the ruthless quest for quick laughs. Yet although there's a degree of slapstick amusement in watching bikini-clad Bynes trick the one-note hunk, the joke rapidly wears thin. Consequently, while under-13s probably won't see past the mischievously cheesy dialogue and frothy pop soundtrack, anybody older should look elsewhere for their fun.
