Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Before it latched on to horror, Hammer made a deal with a minor American outfit to co-produce thrillers in Britain with lesser Hollywood stars. This ponderous drama was the first; it also marked Terence Fisher's directorial debut at the studio. Based on a play by James Hadley Chase and scripted by Frederick Knott (the author of Dial M for Murder), it features stolid George Brent as the London bookshop manager who is blackmailed for a momentary indiscretion by his busty young assistant, Diana Dors, at the instigation of her evil boyfriend, Peter Reynolds. He and Dors bring some life to the picture, and she more than justifies its American title, Man Bait.
