Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Designed as a vehicle for Barbra Streisand (she sings the theme song), this movie ended up starring Faye Dunaway as the glamorous photographer who develops a psychic link with a killer and witnesses his gruesome murders while they are being committed. Co-written by John Carpenter, it's a standard slasher melodrama with a glitzy face-lift and, because Dunaway blends sex with sadism in her chic layouts (her gallery photos were actually taken by Helmut Newton), there's a great deal of pop analysis on exploitative images. It's decently done, but the surface gloss always wins out over any deeper psychological substance.
