Angaaray

Director Mahesh Bhatt is famous for plundering Hollywood storylines for inspiration, so, given the wealth of material available, it's disappointing that he couldn't produce something a touch more original than this uninspiring story of gangsters in the Bombay underworld. Akshay Kumar plays juvenile delinquent-turned-honest cop Inspector Amar, who is dispatched to hunt down a crime lord and his henchmen, only to find that some of his childhood friends are in the pay of the evil don. Action hero Kumar proves that he has a little more to his range than fighting and jumping about, as he pleads with his pals to return to the straight and narrow. But in the end his performance only just manages to lift this film above the level of a pretty routine cops and robbers affair.
