Despite centering on a wooden doll named Pinocchio, this film has no connection to the classic children's tale. The doll in question, previously owned by a father who murdered his son, comes into the possession of a troubled little girl. But is she or Pinocchio responsible for the "accidents" that befall her enemies soon after? The movie never says for sure, finishing instead with a weak and inconclusive ending that seems to prepare for an upcoming sequel. It's professionally made and never tedious to watch, but its ample merits don't prevent it from being a fancily wrapped but fundamentally empty package.
