Summary

Drama starring James Woods, Randy Quaid and Kate Capshaw. When a neighbourly dispute over a lawn sprinkler reaches fever pitch, college lecturer Matt Coler and butcher Lenny Benedetti nearly come to blows. A truce over a friendly barbecue seems to be the order of the day - until Lenny really takes offence and events spiral violently out of control.

Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Before returning to heavyweight assignments such as Nixon, James Woods stretched his acting range in more lightweight fare such as this wry drama in which he gets cheesed off with his neighbours. What starts as a dispute over a sprinkler gets, well, out of hand. Directed by Tony Bill (one of Hollywood's most invisible movers and shakers), it's a made-for-video sitcom with an unusually impressive cast - Kate Capshaw as Woods's wife and Randy Quaid as the slobbish neighbour, an Italian butcher with a volatile temperament. The humour has a darkish edge - not quite The 'Burbs, but not The Mary Tyler Moore Show either.
