Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

An underrated Warner Bros biopic of Broadway legend Marilyn Miller (after whom Marilyn Monroe was named), who is vivaciously played here by lovely June Haver. Large chunks of Miller's New York hits Sunny and Sally are re-created, with highstepping Ray Bolger as her partner Jack Donahue, the man who taught Eleanor Powell to dance. In reality, Miller married three times, the second of her husbands being Mary Pickford's brother Jack, but here she's been given a fictional husband played by Gordon MacRae. Calamity Jane's David Butler directs it all with style, and the supporting cast of Warner veterans makes this a pleasure to watch.
