Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

For connoisseurs, this contains some knockout routines from that fabulous tap dancer Eleanor Powell. On the singing side, there's Sophie Tucker putting her all into Your Broadway and My Broadway, but for fans of Judy Garland, it has something unforgettable - the song Dear Mr Gable. It was originally written to be performed at a birthday party on the MGM lot, sung by the young Garland to the tune of the standard You Made Me Love You, with additional lyrics by Roger Edens. When studio boss Louis B Mayer heard it, he ordered it to be filmed for posterity. This wonderful sequence is in itself a reason for watching.
