Supernatural horror starring Christopher Walken and Elias Koteas. A lapsed priest, now working as a policeman, becomes involved in a battle between angels for the soul of a recently deceased soldier.
Priest-turned-cop Elias Koteas gets caught up in an earthly battle between renegade angels Christopher Walken and Eric Stoltz in this strangely ambiguous and slightly pretentious horror fantasy from writer/director Gregory Widen, who also co-scripted Highlander. The wildly imaginative premise and poetic development, along with a solid cast that includes Virginia Madsen and Amanda Plummer, make this often compelling, sometimes corny, chiller a bizarre cult item. It's highly ambitious on the cerebral front but, except for one scene in Hell, lacking the sort of special effects you would expect from such an apocalyptic notion. However, despite its flaws, it was successful enough to spawn two sequels.
