Two unhappy strangers find themselves on a road trip across the U.S. to partake in a scientist's radical experiment with the afterlife in Mali Elfman's poignant sci-fi debut.
Set in a world where the presence of an afterlife has been confirmed, debut director Mali Elfman's sci-fi drama explores some huge existential questions. Strangers Rose (Katie Parker) and Teddy (Rahul Kohli) have signed up to a scientific study that asks them to kill themselves, safe in the knowledge that this isn't really the end. Forced onto an unexpected road trip to the clinic, the initially frosty pair slowly grow to care for each other and open up about their damaged lives. Meanwhile, the surreal new landscape harbours various people - an enigmatic priest, a cop with PTSD, a free-spirited stargazer - who lead Rose and Teddy to reconsider their stances on life and faith. It may sound cheesy and heavy-going, but Elfman's script is so witty and sensitive, and the performances so heartfelt, you won't want the journey to end.
