Review
A sweet-as-honey Irene Dunne takes the title role in this period (late 19th-century) musical, set in Hoboken, New Jersey where Adeline is adored by all the men who frequent her father's lovely beer garden. Spoilt for choice, she finally settles for songwriter Donald Woods. Directed by Mervyn LeRoy with dances staged by Bobby Connolly, this otherwise unremarkable, overly winsome and somewhat dull movie is partly redeemed by the Jerome Kern-Oscar Hammerstein II songs, which include Why Was I Born?, Don't Ever Leave Me and Here Am I.
